Grants
Grant aid is a type of financial aid that does not need to be repaid. Typically, grants are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need. Grant funding can come from many sources, they most frequently are awarded by the federal and state government.
Federal
- Students must submit a FAFSA each year to apply for federal grants.
- Generally, only undergraduate students working on their first bachelor's degree qualify for federal grants.
- Students must maintain Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress to maintain eligibility
New York State
- New York State TAP is the most common New York State grant received by Buffalo State students.
- Students must submit the NYS TAP Application each year to apply for (Note: the FAFSA should be filed before students can complete the TAP application)
- Students must maintain Good Academic Standing for continued eligibility
- Other Awards and Scholarships offered by NYS may have a separate application in addition to the TAP Application
