Financial aid deadlines vary by aid program and requirement. Carefully review the charts below for deadlines pertinent to you. Contact the Financial Aid Office at (716) 878-4902 or finaid@buffalostate.edu if you have questions. Be advised that deadlines for federal and state aid programs cannot be appealed.
This site provides deadlines and does not detail all other eligibility requirements necessary to receive aid.
Billing deadlines are established by the billing office, Student Accounts. Students may begin a semester without having their aid finalized and/or bill paid in full. However, students remain responsible for any portion of their bill that is not covered by financial aid. Students that have an unpaid balance of $500 or more will be blocked from registering for future semesters.

The FAFSA is generally released on October 1 for the following fall and spring semesters. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the release date is delayed until at least December. Students should complete the FAFSA at https://fafsa.gov/. Be advised that it takes about 5 business days for the FAFSA to be processed by the federal government and then received by Buffalo State. Additionally, if the FAFSA was not completed correctly and is not valid, the student must correct the issue(s) and resubmit within the deadlines.

Students have two opportunities to apply for the New York State Excelsior Scholarship each academic year. A student that applies and is approved for an award in fall does not need to apply again in spring. Federal Aid includes: Federal Pell Grant, SEOG Grant, TEACH Grant, Direct Loans, and Work-Study.
Below are examples of academic changes that could affect a student's SAP status.
Students must accept their loans before the last day of the semester or before they cease half-time enrollment, whichever happens first. Additionally, students must have completed Direct Loan entrance counseling and a master promissory note at https://studentaid.gov/.
